Screen Committee Update 2024
Throughout 2024 the APDG screen committee met quarterly to focus on screen specific industry and advocacy initiatives. Work in the screen industry has started to recover and grow after the strikes in 2023.
There was a strong contingent of Australian production designers at The Gathering in Septes, Greece in September, where new relationships were forged, and challenges and opportunities for production designers were explored. The APDG screen committee are collaborating with ALMG and the LMGI to develop a code of conduct for the preservation of locations and introducing joint seminars to be released in the new year. A big thank you to our screen representative Erin Roche and education representative Liz Keogh Palmer who continued to fight the good fight for costume designers and their departments; championing pay parity, addressing costume department shortages and most recently achieving costume design recognition by the ABS (as it was previously categorised as fashion).
Another big thank you to Dan Willis who created the new ‘How to Get into the Screen Industry’ resource page on our website, along with the huge amount of website management and graphics work he does for the guild.
In 2025 we will continue to pursue our goals of scheduling a Screen Dreaming and Planning Day to discuss screen specific issues and future plans, review and update the screen manual, feature more screen members and their work on our Member Spotlight, ensure Production Designers are being acknowledged at film festivals, explore creating workflow, financial literacy and other courses and creating more awareness of our member noticeboard to crew upcoming jobs.
As always – we encourage you to get involved, share what you are working on and let us know what screen industry issues matter to you.
