This year we will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary APDG awards. Ten years showcasing the amazing design talent of our colleagues. During this time we have seen our colleagues honoured both here in Australia and internationally with a cascade of awards, including the prestigious international awards including Tonys, Oscars and BAFTAs. For a relatively small community of design professionals this is a truly outstanding achievement.
At our inaugural event in 2011, the MC for the evening was film icon Margaret Pomeranz and it was held at Sydney’s NIDA. 16 Award trophies were presented, 6 accreditations were granted, and 25 certificates of high commendation were awarded across 15 categories. Many people had been waiting a long time for an event such as this to be held in Australia and the evening was as memorable as it was ground-breaking.
Since that first awards ceremony, we have seen participation in this event grow and flourish with more categories added to the awards from the more traditional live performance, film and TV design to world of digital and web series design.
The members who over the years have given their time and hard work to making these awards the huge success they have become, and who in the early days endured all night sittings sifting through mountains of DVDs to creating our now seamless online entry process, we owe a massive vote of thanks.
In April the call for entries into this year’s APDG awards will go out and I can’t wait to see what the 10thAnniversary APDG Awards has to offer.
