The Victorian Committee and many of our Victorian members had another very busy work year, with film, TV series and TV commercials experiencing peak levels of production. With little time to spare, the Victorian committee was able to continue working on behalf of the APDG in Victoria promoting the work of the guild.
Compared to previous years, this year we did not present any marquee events, instead focusing our energies on new initiatives and on how best to represent our members, colleagues and industry practitioners.
Committee member and lecturer in Design at VCA Jo Briscoe presented and hosted an event at VCA in partnership with the APDG called Beyond Content and Casting: Trans Approaches to Design for Performance, M’ck McKeague – Designer. This piece was first presented at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in June this year to a standing ovation.
Committee member Robert Perkins represented the APDG at numerous industry events through his participation on various Q&A panels notably at AIT, AACTA and most recently at RMIT, at a workshop called Business of Directing.
This year I again attended the annual Martini Awards hosted by JMC Academy showcasing student graduation films. I presented the award for Best Production Design to the winner. This award is very kindly sponsored by the APDG and the winner received a one-year membership to the guild.
My heartfelt gratitude goes to the Melbourne Committee for its commitment, tireless work and support throughout the year. All the good work that we are able to achieve would not be possible without each and every one of you.
Robert Perkins, Rolland Pik,. Jo Briscoe., Tao Weis., Ellen Stanistreet – thank you.
I look forward to working with you all again in 2020 and to another successful year.
I would also like to thank our sponsors and partners, Rod Allan and Dockland Studios Melbourne and VCA – The Victorian College Of The Arts, for their ongoing support.
