By Stephen Curtis – Live Performance Design Committee Chair
All work and no play – we all know how that goes – so we thought it was time to play.
After more than a year of work on the Live Performance Contract it was a great pleasure to gather the Live Performance Design family together to celebrate the launch of the Contract and to simply enjoy the pleasure of each other’s company. In late April more than 30 Live Performance Designers gathered on the Sydney Theatre Company Wharf balcony to catch up with what is going on in the theatre design world. Considering that Live Performance Designers make up just a quarter of the APDG membership this was a significant gathering – of set, costume and lighting designers working in both the commercial and subsidised sectors. It was particularly pleasing to see some of our most senior designers chatting with some of our newest members, including two from the MENTORAPDG program, and for lighting designers to be so well represented.
Many thanks to the Sydney Theatre Company for hosting the event, to Julie Lynch APDG and Jenny Irwin APDG for making the arrangements, and to all the Live Performance designers who made it so enjoyable. We will do it again!
