Studio Trades

INTRODUCING ‘STUDIO TRADES’

Meet the sister duo behind Sydney Film and Television’s newest construction tradies service Studio Trades.  Founded by National Executive Emerging Screen Representative and host of The Green Room Postcast Lauren Kheir and construction project manager Stephanie Kheir-Debs (pictured – Lauren on the right). The APDG sat down with the sisters to talk all things Studio Trade and what they can provide the APDG community.

Why did you decide to start Studio Trades?

I began working in the art department over 4 years ago and since then I noticed Art Director and Coordinators struggling to find constant trustworthy trades who understood the turnaround and demands. Across a 4 month project, they were constantly swapping between painters and electricians and not knowing who to trust. So one day I pitched the idea to Steph, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the commercial construction world, dealing with trade on a regular basis.

Combining both our fields we launched Studio Trades – taking the stress out of finding trades like electricians for testing and tagging, set electrical work, painters, carpenters and even glaziers.

What are some of the key benefits that Studio Trades will bring to the film industry?

Studio Trades offers a plethora of benefits to the film industry, bridging the gap between the construction and art worlds while streamlining services to enhance productivity across the art department.

We provide access to a network of specialised professionals in various trades, ranging from construction, prop-making to set decoration. This access to talent ensures that productions have the expertise required to bring even the most intricate creative visions to life.

As we all know, the day to day running of an art department is very demanding and the turn around of sets can be back to back! We run and oversee all trades, which is a huge piece of mind for art directors and coordinators.
